If the world was round, I would build a bridge - A Nigerian Disporan Tale(part 1)

We've been told that the world is round, like the many things we've also been told about. Many things are true or appear true, sound true and some may be true while others may be false. Whether the world is flat or the world is round, it might not make any difference for me and for many people.

Like the many things or the many stories we've read about, heard about, believed them to be true. Like other human beings who've struggled to fit the underlining premises of things or who have strugged but still could not fit the premises of things. I too do have my own fair share.

If the world was indeed round, I'll like to do many things that only a world that is flat would permit. Here we go:
  1. If the world was round, I'll like to create a mobile application using Ionic, Angularjs, PhoneGap and Parse that uses Facebook sdk to signup, signin, pull profile pictures of people who have signup in a particular location, display such profiles and allow others to follow or connect with them. When they connect they can chat or exchange messages. This sounds a lot like Tinder but it doesn't necessarily have to be swipe left or right. Simple onClick would do the trick. Why this app? The first scenerio is an app that can allow me to connect with people in an event or seminar before they would leave that event. It turns out 90% of people that attend events don't usually show up at the after party. A lot of people leave before the event is over. Why can't I connect with them lazily while the event is on? Why can't I have a profile that says " Am good at SEO and looking to join a company" or " I suck at JavaScript but I can do HTML/CSS and help you with your startup" or " I suck at tech but I'll make 30 phone calls in a day and have 4 customer meetings setup every week".
  2. The second scenerio is, we as people are locked inside of our apartments and rooms, we barely open the door to strangers, I can't find people that live in my neighbourhood and connect to them at random. What if technology made it possible? If it made it possible to find dates and hookups, why not connecting for other reasons? . I remember in 2011 I did not play football for the whole season because no one around me knew where they play football in order to advice me to go look for a club. I searched online and couldn't find any possibilities. I was new to that area, didn't know the language, didn't have enough contacts or friends. This year again, the same thing, I missed a small part of the football season because of this same issue, thankfully someone knew an internet football board where requests are being posted. Football is my example, what is your example? Can you tell me Facebook helps you connect with non friends?
  3. If the world was round, the app for the events would be marketed or advertised at major events. It would be a free app, the advert by placing some flyers or distributing flyers at the event location and possibly pitching the app at these events. The last event I attended a month ago, had people come from all over Europe. Chances are these people will take the same app to go try it at the next event and the only solution to the success of this app would be " availability" and "workability". I tried two apps at this event. I found no one? Why? The world happens to be round in America alone. Maybe not, maybe the grass is always greener on the other side, maybe it is true. Maybe at the after party of the event, I manged to see that the event organizers are approachable, don't see you as an underdog. Know what I mean?
The world aint round. Too bad!
